History - Tongue Lodge
The building Tongue Lodge was originally built in 1891 by the Sutherland family as a shooting box for Lady Blair also known as "The Jailbird Duchess". Further details of the story of Lady Blair can be found within the Hostel. The Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA) took over Tongue Lodge in 1946 to run as a Youth Hostel and then bought the building in 1957. It has continued to run as a popular Youth Hostel up until the present day.
Current Day - Kyle of Tongue Hostel & Holiday Park
In January 2014, the Mackay family, local to Tongue Village bought Tongue Youth Hostel from the SYHA. We have renamed the business "Kyle of Tongue Hostel & Holiday Park" and we intend to continue to run the building successfully as a Hostel. However, we have a vision of developing the Hostel's surrounding land into a Holiday Park with top quality facilities for camping, caravans and motorhomes as well as providing alternative accommodation options. We look forward to seeing you year after year where you can monitor our progress as our vision comes to fruition.
